Rivian Hints At Possible Wraps For Customization

Auto customization has been around forever and it remains one of the most exciting parts of owning a car. Everything from the wheels to interiors, the color, and add-on features can be configured to suit the taste and needs of the car owner. Rivian is looking to help their customers achieve this goal with reports of possible wraps to help car owners customize their electric vehicles.

Many have rightly described a car as an extension of the owner, or at least, the driver’s identity. Cars have been likened to jewelry, with the power to say a lot about an individual’s personality. However, most of the car manufacturers seem to have limited the opportunities for people to customize their cars, especially in the aspect of color, except the customer is ready to part ways with a lot of money and have the luxury of waiting for a custom spray. Thankfully, auto manufacturers are beginning to recognize that customers want affordable ways of making their vehicles unique. Reports indicate that Rivian, an Amazon-backed electric vehicle manufacturer has keyed into the idea. The hint is coming even as the car maker is yet to roll out or even finish their products, with the first set of deliveries expected to happen later in the year.

The car maker offers a Rivian car configurator for customers placing their orders. While the configurator currently offers nine different colors, rumors have it that Rivian could deliver more colors and patterns by using vinyl wraps, which would be applied to the vehicle at the factory.

A recent tweet spotted by users of the Rivian forum indicates that the company is working on a factory wrap that pays homage to big rock, El Capitan.

The company also suggested that the wrap, which is not ready yet, will come as part of a host of other customization options for the upcoming R1S and R1T electric adventure trucks. Consequently, it could be a tip of the iceberg from what Rivian has to offer in the area of customization in future.

No details have been released yet as to the pricing of the wraps. However, market expectations have predicted the wraps to cost about $1,000, a seemingly good price, considering that a good wrap costs between $1,500 and $4,000 depending on the size of the vehicle and materials of the wrap.

Rivian looks to emulate Tesla China, which began to offer buyers the option of having a factory wrap installed on their car before delivery.
