The month of August marks not only the end of summer but also Breastfeeding Awareness Month. This national campaign, funded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services aims to empower women to commit to breastfeeding their babies.

Research has demonstrated that breast milk is especially important for infant development, even more so for those children born prematurely or with other medical complications. Mother’s milk is biologically designed by nature to provide infants with vital nutrients for growth, as well as antibodies that bolster the development of a child’s immune system.

This August, Birth Song Botanicals discusses La Leche League Groups, Big Latch On and Breast-Feeding Awareness Month.

Birth Song Botanicals

Founded by Certified Professional Midwife, Maria Chowdhury, Birth Song Botanicals was born out of a need for nourishing, safe, and natural herbal remedies such as breastfeeding supplements that pregnant and nursing women or their children could rely on. Since inception, their mission has been to spread awareness about and produce superior quality herbal products that are naturally safe and effective.

From humble beginnings, Birth Song Botanicals quickly gained attention in the health and wellness space as an innovative developer of supplements that were not only effective but clean, natural and safe. With a nine-year track record and a now global reputation for helping countless women and their children live healthier lives, the future for Birth Song Botanicals looks brighter than ever.

It is from this stage of success that the brand aims to spread awareness and information about the importance of breast-feeding and how they too can successfully nurse their babies. To this end the brand acts as a resource and support system for soon to be or nursing mothers, encouraging them to make the commitment to breastfeeding.

The Big Latch On and Le Leche League USA

In 2005 the Women’s Health Action launched the Big Latch On in New Zealand. Having grown in popularity and purpose, in 2010 Joanne Edwards of the Small Beginnings Group, LLC introduced the Big Latch On to the city of Portland, OR. One short year later, Annie Brown and members of the Le Leche League USA worked in conjunction with Joanne to grow the Big Latch On across the United States.

The Big Latch On is held annually over a period of three days during the World Breastfeeding Week, taking place from August 1st through the 7th, and includes both virtual attendance as well as in-person events at registered locations all around the globe. These events offer support, information and guidance on breastfeeding with friends and family encouraged to join in the celebrations.

Global Big Latch On Events focus on protecting, promoting and supporting the act of breastfeeding by:

  • Support communities in identifying opportunities to promote and support breastfeeding
  • Raise awareness and spread knowledge
  • Support and protect the right to breastfeed in public places
  • Ensure communities have the resources to advocate for accessible breastfeeding support services
  • And more
